Is there a way to do the reverse of this? I.e. injecting SMS into the SQLite DB of the iphone?

Thanks for the SQL Ole - I'd just like to point out there is a missing ';' after '&lt' in the version on pastebin.com; otherwise it worked perfectly for my 8000+ SMSs. cheers!

When I browsed for the backup file, it is simply named 3d0d7e5fb2ce288813306e4d4636395e047a3d28 without any file extension. The SQLite browser won't read it, even after I've tried renaming it with the extensions mentioned above.

My iPhone uses iOS v4.3.1, so I'm unsure if this version works differently.

Does anyone have any ideas?

My experiences in case they help anyone.

If excel gives you name?! errors then go back through the copied formulas and change the wobbly " to straight " they are treated differently.

Make sure you read the comment above about adding "type" in before the subject, there is also a "locked" option in my backed up texts on android so I added that as 0 for all texts.

In the xml file if you don't update the total number of texts then the progress indicator will count off the number showing and then hang on 100% - it is actually still processing the rest but was only told there were say 10 not 3800! Just leave it to run anyway - or count your number of texts and update that field.

I had the same problem.

What I've done is changing the query into :

create table test
as select ' <sms protocol="0" address="'||address||'" date="'||date||'000" type="'||(flags-1)||'" subject="null" body="'|| REPLACE(REPLACE(REPLACE(REPLACE(REPLACE(text,'&','&'),'','>'),'"','"'),x'0d0a','#13;')||'" toa="null" sc_toa="null" service_center="null" read="1" status="-1" locked="0" />' from message;

And then Select File>Export>Table as CSV file and choose the “test” table. Open this table, it should have one column with all you SMSes that you can copy into the xml file. I don't think this is the best way but I don't know anything about SQL =)

I couldn't find a way to copy the results but i worked around it by:
edit the messages table and added a text column named output.

run this query (which is basically like the original query just with update command):
update message
set output = ' <sms protocol="0" address="'||address||'" date="'||date||'000" type="'||(flags-1)||'" subject="null" body="'|| replace(replace(replace(replace(replace(text,'&','&'),'','>'),'"','"'),x'0d0a','#13;')||'" toa="null" sc_toa="null" service_center="null" read="1" status="-1" locked="0" />';
