Hello Team,

I’m using the new version of Nokia Suite, so it doesn’t allow you to get the Messages in csv format. Instead it’s in NBU format. SO download NBU to CSV converter from Google and then you can proceed with steps listed above

Athg2sms didn’t work for me and neither did SMS Backup & Restore. Guess I had to new version of Nokia PC suite installed as posted by different users as well. Nevertheless I managed to rewrite the Nokia csv-file into the xml code required by SMS Backup & Restore (using xls) and could then upload the xml with SMS B&R. Will try to post the xls somewhere in case someone else gets frustrated

Has ANYONE found a solution to accomplish the opposite? I mean, I want to transfer SMSs from my Android to a Nokia phone. Essentially, I want the exact converse of what your program does. I reckon it won’t be TOO difficult to do this. If only I had the source code, I could probably do it myself

I have saved my sms on pc and it is saved in .vmg extention. i want to retrieve in andriod ,samsung ace 2 duos. please suggest hoe it can be done.

I congratulate you all for developing some good apps such as SMS backup and restore. Was invaluable for me in restoring my texts. But you know what? I am sick and tired of Android hanging so just this evening I went back to my ex-flame NOKIA and bought myself a Lumia 800. No, my friends tell me that the Mango of Windows doesn’t crash ( sweet mango so far). Now I would be grateful if you can point me to an app that will help me transfer messages from ANDROID TO NOKIA.

Hello everyone..I tried copying messages by using the guides and the tools mentioned above..
My Nokia phone is a 2323-c2 and my android is a Xperia Mini Pro..
The Nokia2Android tool did make an .xml file but when viewed in a web browser,”" was shown..
I tried importing the OVI Suite backup in Nokia2Android also but it gave me the same result..
Now what I have is,all my sms in .vmg and in .csv format made by Nokia PC Suite and not OVI Suite..
But until this .xml file isnt properly made I cant use SMS Backup Restore tool to backup my sms from nokia to android,can I?
Please help asap..

tried backing up sms using nokia suite that created a small 1kb .nbu file. however nokia2androidsms is looking for a .db3 file. did i miss anything?

Hi, I confirm I could use MobilEdit to copy my 430 contacts from a Nokia C3 to a Samsung Galaxy WiFi S5.0 successfully. Thank you very much for the tip Simon.
I just had a problem, when I exported to *.vcf from MobilEdit, and I copied the vcf’s to my Samsung, it didn’t succeed. It gave all errors reading the vdf’s. After renaming the vcf’s with a simple name (contact1.vcf, etc, you can do this by selecting all your vcf’s from Windows, select the first one, and rename), I could read them from my Samsung. i cant get ur programme to work for me please help me
i used nokia suite to export all my sms as csv
then i try to use nokia2androidsms, it created an xml file of 1kb only !
which of ocurse everytime doesnt work with the sms backup and restore prog of urs..!
i tried converting the csv file to xml by other ways…but still same problem ..ur prog doesnt want to work..whyyy ( ? please help me

i am facing problem in creating xml file as after pick and droping datastore file to Nokia2AndroidSMS, its only generating xml file of size 1kb…and inside that if open in notepad its saying only 0 message..why its not able to create file with all message??

I have samsung Galaxy s, it has SMS in threaded view, is there any apps I can view messages in NOKIA Style.

I have Samsung Galaxy Fit S5670. When someone sends SMS with Vcard, the SMS is not received in my Inbox. Why this happens and what is the solution? They say that this is a common problem with Android phones. IS it true? Any ordinary phone without Android has the facility of send and receive SMS with Vcard. Sadly my phone does not have this. Could you give any solution.

It is possible to migrate from Nokia to Android using a software called MOBILedit.

MOBILedit! is capable of migrating data between various phones. It allows you to connect phones to PC and manage its content.

How to copy data from one phone to another:

1) Download and install MOBILedit! (http://www.mobiledit.com/downloads.htm) and also the mobile phones cable drivers pack, if necessary (also there).
2) Plug both phones to your computer and let the drivers to be installed automatically (Apart from data cable, you can use also BlueTooth or infraport).
3) Open MOBILedit! and run Connection Wizard. Both phones will be found and connected immediatelly, if everything goes well.
4) Go to Phone Copier plugin and set it up so the source phone is displayed on the left side and the destination phone on the right.
5) Choose contacts and other content to be copied.
6) Hit the big Copy button and voila!

I wonder if anyone here can answer this question? I have an Ovi email address that I’d like to keep; however, I’ve just bought an android pphone and am using k9 email. It seemed to work at first with my ovi email address but then stopped recognising the username/password. However, it still works on a pc. I recently ported my old mobile number to the new phone -can’t imagine that that’s anything to do with the problem but could it be? any other ideas?

I donated $20 AUD back in January this year. I think it’s a fair amount for a one time donation. You know some applications like this cost more but they do half as good job as this one does.

I wonder why Google have not thought about this kind of data migration problems that may occur when the user is switching from one phone brand to another or from one system to Android. They could have built in some similar facility righ into Android.

I sure would not expect Nokia to do something like that. After many years with Nokia I have finally given up on them completely. Especially after they decided to get together with Microsoft. Their different flavors of Symbian systems are not very good. The hardware is usually not worth the money they want for it. And on top of all they don’t seem to care about customers like they used to. They are all about profit now, just like Apple. They run their own race, without questioning their decisions.

Now I only use Nokian tyres on my car! :p It’s the only thing they are good at now. Wonder how long that will last.

There should be some kind of “cross brand” data migration facility built in righ into Andorid for all devices that use Andorid platform. I’m sure Google could learn something from you Ritesh.

I know that “cross platform” would be much more difficult, especially when it comes to Apple. It would not be easy to convince them to join some joint effort like a standardisation to make data migration between phones easy. So that’s probably out of picture.

To make data migration between different platforms even possible, it takes a genius like yourself Ritesh, and a specially designed software.

Just wanna tell you how much I appreciate your work. I thank you for taking the initiative, and for the time it took you to produce this application. I have already told my Android friends about it.

And of course, I wanna thank Miha for his Nokia2AndroidSMS applicaiton. If it wasn’t for you guys… I don’t know what I would have done. Thank you both so much!

I used the method described by Miha Vrhovnik on his blog at http://www.simail.si/nokia2androidsms/ using his Nokia2AndroidSMS Windows tool and your SMS Backup & Restore. I have now finally migrated my good old text messages from my old Symbian S60 based Nokia N73 to my new Android based HTC Desire.

The great thing about it is that it did not require the use of any scripts or editing the resulting XML file. Unlike with the method described by Alexander Ginkel on his blog where he used Gammu which is a command line version of Wammu (“a program to manage data in your cell phone such as contacts, calendar or messages”). Gammu is quite hard to configure properly and use. While using Miha’s Nokia2AndroidSMS utility is very simple and straight forward.

Using SMS Backup & Restore then to import the resulting XML file was very simple and straight forward as well. All I had to do was create the SMSBackupRestore directory and place the XML file from Nokia2AndroidSMS in it, and then find it on the phone using SMS Backup & Restore and import the messages from it. SMS Backup & Restore automatically created threads for all the imported messages. There was no single problem with it.

Another great thing is that there is no need to root the phone using this method.

HTC phones come with an inbuilt widget to transfer Contacts, Messages and Calender

On your HTC Phone

1. On the main Home screen, tap > Transfer Data.

2 . On the Transfer Data screen, tap Next.

3 . On your old phone, turn Bluetooth on and set it to discoverable mode.

4 . Tap Next to continue.
HTC phone automatically turns Bluetooth on and searches for Bluetooth devices.

5. From the device list, select your old phone and then tap Next.
HTC phone then tries to pair with your old phone and displays a security passkey.

6 . On your old phone, enter this passkey or simply confirm it.
7 . Select the Contacts check box (and other types of data you want to import), and then tap Next.

8 . When your HTC phones finishes importing data, tap Done.

Combined with Ovi Suite, this is a fantastic way to back up messages off your Nokia phone.

I have tried abcnokia and sadly it has many bugs. I have written a friendly email to the author with examples attached that he may be able to fix his code – I hope so, because it is a lovely program

This is a snippet of the email I sent him/her:
1. VCARDs do not parse correctly [vcard.vmg]
2. The “+” prefix for international numbers is stripped [prefix.vmg]
3. quotes are illegal in XML attribute fields [quotes.vmg]
4. Every message is prefixed with “[CDATA[" and suffixed with "]]” [prefix.vmg produces and example of this]
5. and are illegal in XML attribute fields and should be replaced with and respectively [vcard.vmg produces an example of this]
6. The unicode character 2029 (seen as 2920 in a vmg file using a hex editor because it’s stored little-endian) should be replaced with: &x0A; not “?” [para.vmg]

Another (simpler) method is to export as VMG from the phone to the computer using Nokia OVI suite then converting the VMG files into a single XML file using this free converter:
